
SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. (Head Office: Minato-Ku, Tokyo; Representative: Masayoshi Son; hereinafter 'SBM') announced that it will stop accepting new applications for second generation (2G) mobile service subscription (including prepaid service) on March 31 (Monday), 2008 as previously announced. The cut-off is introduced taking the promotion of migration to third generation (3G) mobile service, which has been enriched, as well as the decrease in 2G service subscribers into consideration.*
SBM will continue to provide 2G mobile services to customers using this service, including upgrade of handsets (2G to 2G), various services of 'Backup Service Package' and after-sale services such as repair service, after the cut-off on new applications for subscription to 2G mobile service.
Also, as for the prepaid service that has been provided exclusively on 2G handsets, SBM plans to launch a 3G prepaid service from early February 2008. With this new initiative, SBM will continue to meet the needs for prepaid services. More information about the 3G prepaid service such as service details, price and tariff will be announced as soon as it is available.
